"DENISE KORNAK"
The path of art making for me began before high school, and continued through college and graduate school, where I received my bachelor and master's degrees in Art Education. I then went on to teach in the Albany City Schools for just over 10 years, before moving out of the capital region, and, for a time, redirecting all my creative energies into raising two wonderful children. I returned to academic work as an elementary teacher then segued into work at NYS Office of Mental Health as a teacher, art therapist and ultimately, finishing my professional career as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Therapist. Quite a varied but rewarding work life, and, I must say, having been rooted in art and the creative process always proved to be an asset when shifting from one career to another making art.
And now I find myself "retired" with opportunity to re-explore all my art interests. Though I began creating and exhibiting my work as a Print maker in my early art life, I now find that painting and photography are my current focuses. Classes at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, the Living Room Art Gallery, the Blooming Artist Gallery, and of course, involvement with. SSAS, have all supported growth in my new directions.
I hope to continue to learn and grow as an artist and look forward to the life enriching experiences that unfold when making art.
