David T. Mayack
Dave’s interest in watercolor is an outgrowth of his early interest in photography. During his undergraduate years, he provided photographic services to a number of university departments and the public relations office. After graduate studies, he taught photography for a short time in a college environmental studies program. Subsequently, Dave did not consider pursuing his photographic interests again until retirement. Given the changes in photographic technology and the general direction of photographic reference in visual media, he felt a need to develop a more personal visual perspective. Dave has always admired watercolor work and chose this medium because of its expressive qualities. He has studied watercolor with a number of instructors, but Tony Conner has been the most influential in his development. Dave’s goal in painting is to delve expressively into concepts of landscape that are apparent to him as a trained ecologist but not commonly represented in landscape art.
