"FRANK COLETTA"
I have been going to Vt. for years during the summer to draw the magnificent landscapes. This series of India Ink drawings
is from my favorite subject. These are drawings from Edgar Woodard's farm on River Road, in Arlington, VT. They were done in May and August 2023.
I purposely pushed the contrasting black and white to emphasis the sun that was strong those days. I tried to get a picture of old Edgar but he wasn't around on the days I was there. I talked to Edgar last May while he was filling up the gas tank on his riding mower. I told him how much I love to draw his farm. All he sad was "yup". I spoke to some neighbors and they told me he was a hermit and no one there really knew much about him. I have repeatedly gone to his farm over 15 years now. It has worn down and so has Edgar. I figured that before the whole place falls down completely it would be nice to have a series of drawings to remember him by. The farm in located on the Battenkill River. The road he lives on is officially The River Road/Benedict Arnold Crossing. How about that! There is a wooden bridge next to his barns that has been closed to traffic because of dangerous decay. The local teens jump of the bridge into the Battenkill during the summer to cool down. It sure is a beautiful place to spend a summer afternoon. Normon Rockwell's summer home is just down the road. I can see why he picked this amazing place to spend a quiet summer enjoying the beauty of Vermont.
